Just where on earth is Whitburn ? find out here.

Where in EuropeLet's start from the outside and work the way in. First of all, for all you aliens currently residing on Earth as humans or if the web has reached outside our solar system, Whitburn is on the planet we call Earth (third rock from the Sun). Next stop Europe after which comes Great Britain or The United Kingdom, whichever you want to call it. Great Britain is a set of islands off the coast of France. Depending on your political point of view, some may say that Europe is a big lump just off the coast of Great Britain. The biggest island consists of three countries. England, Wales and of course Scotland. Finally, Whitburn is in Scotland.

Scotland mapBefore we progress here is a little guide to Scotland. For those people who think that we Scots all have red hair, wear kilts all the time, eat haggis constantly, play the bagpipes and say "och eye the noo"......WE DON'T. Well, I don't.
It also may surprise you that we also have modern things like cars, television (a Scotsman invented it) telephones (a Scotsman invented this also), hot & cold running water and computers. Scotland, is most definately in the 21st century.
It doesn't always rain here and not all men from Glasgow are drunken, violent thugs as portrayed in TV and films. At times we have an excellent climate and we are one of the friendliest nations on the planet. Scotland's scenery in places is unrivalled especially up the West coast and The Highlands. There are fantastic rivers for fishing and there are many excellent trails if you are into hillwalking etc.
Where would the world be without Scotland's great inventors and scientists ? Alexander Graham Bell invented the aforesaid telephone. John Logie Baird invented aforesaid television. Alexander Fleming discovered penicillin. Scotland is the home of golf and have some of the finest courses on earth. The best Bond ever was Sean Connery? and we gave you Billy Connolly. Three of the world's greatest racing drivers are Scots; Jackie Stewart, Jim Clark and David Coulthard and of course Madonna got married here. There are countless more inventions and discoveries attributed to Scots and without which the World would be lost. Scotland is an excellent place to visit all year round so why not come and see us. Apologies to the residents of Orkney & Shetland for not showing their fine islands on the map

West LothianAlong the Southern shore of the Firth of Forth stretching down towards the North Sea are the three counties called The Lothians. Midlothian surrounds Edinburgh while West and East Lothian lie either side of Mid Lothian. Whitburn is in West Lothian (click on the thumbnail to see a large version of the map). The town is very well served by the M8 motorway from Edinburgh (come off Junction 4) and Glasgow (come off Junction 5 - not on map but it is to the west of Whitburn.   Edinburgh is only 25 minutes away by train on the Bathgate - Go to the northwest map Go to the northeast map Go to the southwest map Go to the southeast map Edinburgh Sprinter line and there is a station in Fauldhouse on the southern Glasgow - Edinburgh rail line. As you can see Whitburn makes a great central base for visiting surrounding areas such as Livingston (the heart of Silicon Glen), the market town of Lanark to the south and historic Linlithgow, birthplace of Mary Queen of Scot to the north. The centre of Glasgow is only about 30 minutes away by car and Scotland's largest city acts as the gateway to the scenic beauty of the West Coast.

Please note that new versions of the Whitburn maps are currently being prepared.
